Victory Over Violence (VOV) is a youth-led initiative that was launched in 1999 in response to growing concerns over youth related violence in the United States such as the Columbine Shootings in Littleton, Colorado.

It is inspired by the universal principles of nonviolence and respect for all living beings. Through the power of dialogue, VOV encourages authentic respect, trust and friendship among young people, families, schools and local communities across all boundaries that may divide such as race, nationality, religion, age, gender, language, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, etc. and recognition of the common humanity we all share.

Understanding that violence is a worldwide illness, the VOV campaign strives to foster global perspectives that identify and connect the root causes of violence underlying conflicts from the personal-level to the local-, national- and international-levels. In this regard, VOV actively supports the United Nations Culture of Peace initiative, sustainability initiatives such as the Earth Charter and nuclear abolition. All people  everywhere are invited to join the VOV movement.

Domestic violence is quickly becoming the number one problem in Panama ahead of job and health related issues. Single or no parents’ homes, divorce, TV violence, unsupervised children, gang and street violence are all killing our hope for a brighter future. We have to take a stand now, tomorrow will be too late.
